The Wright family’s summer session at the Percy Warner steps in Belle Meade, Tennessee, was an absolute dream to photograph. With vibrant greenery surrounding us and a glowing sunset as our backdrop, the evening felt straight out of a fairytale. We started by taking some portraits on the iconic stone steps before wandering into the lush trails nearby, creating two distinct looks that beautifully captured the essence of the season.
The Wrights’ little one, under the age of two, was the true star of the session. Her curiosity about the camera made for some adorable, candid moments that really brought the photos to life. Capturing those spontaneous smiles and playful interactions is what I love most about working with young children. There’s no predicting what they’ll do next, and that unpredictability leads to the most genuine and memorable images. I was able to get some great shots of her hanging out with her family, laughing, exploring, and soaking up all the love.
Throughout the shoot, I embraced a documentary style, focusing on capturing movement and energy—especially in those fleeting moments when she would toddle off or reach out for a hug. I also love incorporating a bit of intentional blur to show motion, giving the images a sense of life and authenticity. The combination of the fairytale-like scenery and the family’s candid joy made this session unforgettable.
